June 1, 2011 - Perspective E-zine’s Inaugural Awards

06/01/11

The popular residential design e-zine, Perspective New England, announced the winners of their esteemed inaugural awards program today.  When the judges who comprised of the magazine’s reputable editorial contributors, gathered to evaluate the entries for the 2011 Perspective On Design Awards in Honor of Residential Design, the judges struggled to choose between such varied and creative solutions to the big and small problems of homeowners from all over New England.  A handful of submissions rose above the rest and the winners were declared.

NEW CONSTRUCTION – WHOLE HOUSE

Architect Stephanie Horowitz of Boston’s Zero Energy Design crafted a 2,000 square foot, 3-bedroom Cape Cod vacation home composed of three forms delineated by geometry, use, and material.

NEW CONSTRUCTION – INTERIOR DESIGN

Designer, Kristen Rivoli of the eponymous design firm in Winchester, Massachusetts, created an interior for a Cape Cod house with handsome, low-key details infused with color.

RENOVATION – WHOLE HOUSE

Architect Michael Kim transformed a 35-year-old split-level house from a stodgy, cramped interior with dark exterior features to an urban style loft - airy and bathed in natural light.

RENOVATION – INTERIOR DESIGN

Katy Flammia of Boston’s THEREdesign Architecture + Interior Design gave a 1500 square foot condominium a complete facelife and took it from boring to brilliant on a minimal budget.

LANDSCAPE

Landscape Architect Keith Wagner of Burlington, Vermont, replaced a neglected pond with a pool and provided privacy without obstructing the beautiful vista from the entry drive with a contemporary design for a timber and copper clad pool house.

OBJECT

Tracy A. Davis of Urban Dwellings and Greg Day of Day Lighting in Portland, Maine, created grace, beauty, and function from the splinters of the fallen oldest elm in MA in 2010 with the production of a kitchen island’s round extension and a unique chandelier.
